Zola Faye Johnson, 77, died Monday, February 9, 2009 in Dalhart, TX Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Dalhart with Joel Johnson, Son and Rev. Rodney Weatherly, Pastor and Rev. Bob McAllister, Pastor to Sr. Adults officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home. Zola Faye McBrayer was born January 29, 1932 to L.L. and Mildred Ricketts McBrayer. She attended school in Hereford and Hartley before marrying David Johnson on January 25, 1948, in Clayton, N.M. David made Zola Faye walk across the state line in the snow so that he wouldnt be accused of kidnapping her. Her father Luke told David that he would have to finish raising her. The marriage that everyone thought wouldnt last, lasted over 60 years. She worked as the First Baptist Church secretary for a number of years before working at Dalhart Federal where she started as a secretary. She worked her way up and when she retired in 1997, she was a senior vice-president. Zola Faye was actively involved in her beloved First Baptist Church where she taught numerous Sunday School classes and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Love Notes, a womens trio well known and sought after in the Dalhart area. Mrs. Johnson also served on the Board of Directors for the Dalhart Seniors Citizens and was a HOSTS volunteer in the elementary school where she loved working with the students on their reading. She was an avid quilter until her health declined. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Betty Jean in 2005, a granddaughter in 1971, one nephew Jim Hall, and the love of her life David in September 2008. Survivors include ; two daughters, Peggy Johnson McGehee of Amarillo and Nancy Clifton of Bedford; Three sons: Steve and his wife Sharon of Hereford, Joel and his wife Pat of Arlington, and Don and his wife Sandy of Borger. She was the proud Memaw of her 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
