Zelda Beth "Z.B." Lang, 85 of Dalhart, passed away on February 13, 2023. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 10:00am on Monday, February 20, 2023 at First Christian Church with Pastor Barry Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6:00pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home.
Zelda Beth Law was born June 29, 1937 at the Loretto Hospital in Dalhart to Albert and Marjory Law. After a long, full life, Zelda went home on February 13, 2023 from Coon Memorial Home in Dalhart.
Zelda attended Dalhart schools, graduating early from Dalhart High School in the summer of 1954. Zeldas dad wouldnt let her get married until she completed courses at Draughns Business College in Amarillo, where she graduated the 9-month course in 5 months. Once she completed the course, Zelda called Robert Joe Lang and told him, "Im graduating, get ready to get married." Zelda and Bob Lang were married on November 27, 1954. To this union was born Debra Beth, Robert Alan, and Joe Richard.
ZB began her newspaper career at the age of 12, and worked as a copy writer, reporter, editor and owner of the Dalhart Daily Texan. She retired from the newspaper business for the final time in 2019. ZB also was a reporter of local news for KXIT radio, which she loved because she did her reports from the comfort of her home, coffee in hand.
Zelda was active in the community, serving on the City Council, Good Samaritan Board, PRPC, a member of First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star and a local sorority.
One of Zeldas greatest honors was being named Dalhart Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2021.
Zelda was proceeded in death by her parents, Albert and Marjory Law, her husband Robert J. Lang, her sister, Jo Alice Rogers and son-in-law, Mike Ford.
Zelda is survived by her children Debra Ford, Bobby (Karen) Lang and Joe (Sondra) Lang all of Dalhart. Grandchildren Martha Johnson, Steve (Brandi) Ford, Michelle Glaze, Jeremy (Abby) Lang, Jennifer (Hugo) Gonzalez, Shannon (Dewayne) Qualls, Kristin McDonnel and Whitney (Curry) Read, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
The family requests memorials be made to Good Samaritan, Dalhart Senior Citizens Center or a charity of your choice.
