William Grimes, 83 of Dalhart, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021. A Memorial Service will be from 2-4 o' clock in the afternoon on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Hillside Church in Dalhart. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. William (Willie) Robert Grimes, born March 10, 1938 to James Grimes and Bertha Whitson Grimes. Willie was born in Frogville (Hugo) OK. Willie always said that he was a T.I.O. . Texas Improved Okie! Willies parents were migrant workers so Willie worked in the fields picking cotton as a young child. His family moved a lot when Willie was growing up and at the age of 14, the family moved to Dalhart. At that time, Willie went to work at Western Auto for Ted Frush. In March of 1959, Willie joined the Army, and was in the 23rd Engineers. On July 20, 1959, Willie and Gloria Jean Wager married in Lubbock, Texas. Willie was then stationed in Hanau, Germany until March, 1962. While in Germany, Willie and Jean had their first child, Jeannie. In March of 1962, Willie returned to work for Western Auto and in April of that year, their second child, Jeanette was born. In September of 1963, their third child, Robin was born. Willie continued to work at Western Auto until it closed in 1972. Willie then went to work for North TX Implement, then John Deere, and then Hill Tractor until he retired. Willie enjoyed spending time with his family and was always wanting to know when the next family reunion was going to be held. Willie also enjoyed going to the mountains and spending time with Jean, and taking the grandkids with them every chance he got. After he retired, Willie enjoyed working in his garage, walking at the lake and tinkering in the yard. Although we will miss him and our hearts are broken Willie was a godly man and we know he is in Heaven and we will see him again. A special thank you to Sam Sherber and Jimmy Turpin who were always there for Willie and Jean during Willies illness. Willie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean. His 3 daughters, Jeannie Casey, Jeanette McCarty, and Robin Groen and husband Terry. Grandchildren: Aurora, Jude and Zeke of the home. Grandchildren: Kipper Turpin and wife Stephanie, Kolby Turpin, Jessie Turpin, Sarah Ryan and husband Ronald, Shannon Matthews, Amber Conner and husband Sean, Courtney Hale, Cassy Birkenfield and husband Leon, Matthew Groen and wife Megan, Mark Groen and wife Leticia. Great Grandchildren: Seth and his wife Jaret, Zakkary, Shawn Michael, Trenton, Taisha, Cara, Maddie, Oliver, Hayley, Piper, Bradyn, Autumn, Addie, Breyson, Koufax, Lyla, Eamon and Addax. A brother, Johnny Grimes and sister, Lois Newton. Willie was preceded in death by: His parents: James and Bertha Grimes, sisters: Fannie Swink, Corinne Grimes, Francis Bales, Bertha Mae Davis, and Vernie Bess. Brothers: James Grimes and Ray Grimes.
