William Ellis Coots Sr. age 77 passed away April 10, 2024, at Coon Memorial Nursing Home in Dalhart. William was born in Tulia, Texas on October 21, 1946, the son of the late Gerald Coots and Ethel Holcomb Coots Fowler. Bill worked as a mechanic for John Deere, International, and Allis Chalmers. He later worked as a farmhand for Oscar Przilas for over thirty-nine years. A hard worker, he enjoyed hunting pheasant or tinkering on old cars and antique tractors. Bill always had a quick wit and enjoyed telling a good joke. He grew up in Tulia, Texas and moved to Dalhart in 1965. He later married Leora Weatherford in Dalhart in March of 1968 to which their union brought three beautiful children. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sisters Nadine Proscal and Candice Edminster. He was also preceded by his wife of thirty-three years Leora Weatherford Coots. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children: William E. Coots Jr. and wife Misty of Dalhart, Charlotte Coots of Miami, Texas, and James Coots of Dalhart. Stepbrother Roger Jones and wife Elizabeth of Plainview, half-brother Gerry Coots and wife Kathy of Plainview, step grandchildren: Elizabeth Rackler and husband Dillon of Dimmit; Jon Paul Nesler of Lubbock; step-great-grandchildren: Grayson and Brayden Rackler. In addition, he also leaves numerous other relatives and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and love him. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
