Wendell R. Howell, 84, died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in Dalhart, TX
Graveside Services were held at 2:00 pm CST on Saturday, February 4, 2017 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas with Rusty Hancock, Pastor of Lincoln Street Baptist Church, Dalhart, Texas.
Wendell Ray Howell was born November 11, 1932 in Wellington, TX to Homer and Lucille (Sixton) Howell, they moved to Dalhart in 1934. Wendell graduated from Dalhart High School in 1951 where he was an outstanding athlete, receiving all district and honorable mention all-state in football. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. Wendell married Bobbie Lowrey in Clayton, NM on November 16, 1957. He was an active member of the Chapel Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church.
Wendell enjoyed coaching his kids and grandkids as well as watching them participate in everything from baseball to golf. He was a partner of HWB Wholesale Grocery in the 1960s and began a career in the Cattle Business with Coronado Feeders in 1972, retiring in 1997 after 25 years. He then went to work for the TDCJ Dalhart Unit where he retired in 2011.
Survivors include his wife Bobbie of the home, his guard dog Sandi, his son Kenny Howell of Dalhart and his daughter Kay and her husband David Brotherton of Floydada, TX, a sister Bobbie Knight of Lubbock, TX 7 grandchildren: Jarrett and his wife Tiffanie Howell, Garrett and his wife Kelsey Howell, Trendi Howell, Britnee Brotherton, Macee Brotherton, Chase Brotherton, and Brandon and his wife Chrissa Brotherton as well as 4 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
