W. D. Dub Howard, 86, died Monday, April 18, 2016 in Amarillo, TX. Funeral services to celebrate his life were held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church (324 5th St, Farwell, TX 79325) Farwell, Texas. Burial was on Friday, April 22, at 10:00 am in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX. Walter Dee Howard, Jr. was born December 26, 1929 in Littlefield, TX to Walter and Ethel (Henderson) Howard. Dub was raised in the Texico Farwell area and graduated from Clovis High School in 1947. He attended ENMU where he played football and studied Architecture. Dub joined the Air Force in 1950 and he served until 1958. On December 29, 1953 he married Beth Tharp in Texico, NM. He and Beth farmed in the Texico/Farwell area until moving to Dalhart in 2011. Dub was an active member of the Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church and was instrumental in the design and building of the new Sanctuary. His influence in the community ranged from being Mayor of Texico, sitting on various Church boards and as a lifetime farmer, receiving many farming awards in conservation and production. His devotion and love for God, family and agriculture was known by all who met him. He was quick to teach life lessons to those around him. Dub once said, If anyone never met me they missed nothing, but if they dont know Jesus my Savior theyve missed everything.Dub is survived by his wife Beth Howard of Dalhart, TX, two sons: Mark Howard and wife Robin of Dalhart, TX and Greg Howard and wife Roberta of Dalhart, TX as well as a granddaughter, Melissa Howard of Houston, TX and grandsons: Brett Howard and wife Morgan of Dalhart, TX and Bryce Howard and wife Kalley of Dalhart, TX and Mason Howard of Pensacola, FL a Great Grandson: John Henry Howard of Dalhart, TX and a brother Bob Howard and his wife Letha of Clovis, NM. Also survived nieces and nephews Carla Flock and her husband Phil, Rita Tarbet and her husband Lynn, Cathy Wiese and her husband Ralph, Cindy Kleyn-Kennedy and her husband Michael, Mike Kennedy and wife Stacy, Donna Cox, Karen Anderson and her husband Mark.Dub is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen and Bernice.Memorials may be made to:The Building Fund at Central UMC -517 Rock Island Ave. Dalhart, TX 79022Memorial Fund at Hamlin Memorial UMC Box 338, Farwell, TX 79325
