Wallace "Wally" Rigg, 71, died Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Amarillo, TX. Funeral Services were held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Newlife Church. Burial did follow with Navy Military Honors in the Memorial Park Cemetery - arrangements under the care of Horizon Funeral Home. Wallace John Rigg was born November 7, 1946 in Valparaiso, IN to Leon and Mildred (Dilley) Rigg. Wally was raised in Valparaiso and graduated from Washington Township High School in Valparaiso in 1964. After graduation he attend Indiana University and University of Southern California before joining the US Navy in 1967. Wally was on the maiden voyage of the USS John F. Kennedy. Kennedy left for the Mediterranean in April 1969. The ship reached Rota, Spain on the Tuesday morning of April 22, 1969. Kennedy's maiden voyage, and several of her subsequent voyages, were on deployments to the Mediterranean during much of the 1970s to help deal with the steadily deteriorating situation in the Middle East -(From Wikipedia). Wally was a airplane electric repair man on the aircraft carrier. After he got out of the Navy he worked at the steel mills and helped his dad farm before taking over the farm when his father had a heart attack. Wally came to Dalhart in 1981 and worked at XIT feeders for 26 years before retiring in 2008. Wally enjoyed grandchildren and family as well as classic cars and tractors. He was very active in the Grand Lodge in Indiana and the Elks lodge in Dalhart, with over 36 years of service. Wally is past Exalted Ruler, and a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. 2390. Mr. Rigg is survived by his daughter Rhonda and her husband Charlie Griggs of Dalhart, TX, his grandchildren: Derek, Dusten, and Emma Grace Griggs. His son Kevin Rigg and grandson Chance as well as his siblings: Judy Rigg Mathias of Park Forrest., IL, Jim and Tom Rigg of Valparaiso, IN.
