Virginia R. Wedel, 101 of Dalhart, passed away on October 8, 2022. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:00PM on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Kurtis Abla officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park. Mrs. Wedel will lay in state Wednesday, October 12 from noon until 6:00PM with a family receiving friends immediately following at the funeral home until 8:00PM. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. Virginia R. (Gordon) Wedel was born on Wednesday, July 13, 1921 in Texhoma, TX to Mary (Gorman) and Gilbert Gordon. She graduated high school from Archie, MO in 1939. In 1945 she married William Wedel in Texline, TX. Virginia was a beloved long-time resident of Dalhart, TX. She owned the Fabric Mart on main street, managed the Econolodge for 25 years and loved meeting new people and helping stranded travelers, she also worked as the receptionist at Dalhart Federal Savings & Loan for 11 years, retiring in 2021. Viriginia was a member of First Baptist Church of Dalhart and enjoyed volunteering time at the ROC. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady. She was a part of the Home Demonstration Club and won several awards as a 4-H Leader and adult member. Virginia loved quilting, hand embroidery and sewing and she shared her talents by sewing many childrens ballet and dance costumes. Viginia loved attending her grandchildren and great grandchildrens dance, gymnastics, cheer competitions and any sporting event they were involved in. She loved to tailgate at Texas Tech games. She was an avid traveler of the United States and Europe with family and friends, but her summers with her son in Missouri were so very special. Virginia is survived by her daughte, Marsha Wedel Cunningham and husband Bill and her son, Bill Wedel, her six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren: Allen Cunningham and Laura Kopytkiewicz and children Claire and Caroline, Ryan Cunningham and wife Kandis and children Drennon and Dalton, Lindsey Waldrop and husband John and children Johnnie and Brooks, Trent Cunningham and wife Julee and children Calee, Marshall, Ellis and Harper, Barrett Wedel and Ammie Davis, Collin Cunningham and wife Sara and children Landry, Lanie and Livy, one brother Bobby Gordon and wife Willie Ruth and numerous loved nieces, nephews, extended family members and longtime friends. Virginia is preceded in death by her husband Bill Wedel, her parents Mary (Gorman) and Gilbert Gordon, brother Hugh Gordon and sister Kathleen Gordon Byrd.
