Virgil Dean Brown, 85 of Dalhart, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00am on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Father Lawrence John celebrating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Brown will lay in state from 10:00am until 5:30pm on Friday at the funeral home. Immediately following at 6:00pm, a Rosary and Vigil will be recited at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. Dean was born on March 24, 1937 in Burdett, KS to Leroy and Virgie Brown. Dean met and married his sweetheart, Tina Leikam, on October 30, 1965. He served in the United States Army and retired a Major after 23 years of service. Dean worked in the natural gas industry and was part owner of his own company. He loved watching NASCAR on tv and going to races. He also enjoyed being at their lake house and going out on the boat, but his absolute favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. One of Deans biggest dreams was to own a 1957 Thunderbird but settled for a 1971 model. Everyone knew and loved him as "Ornery Dean." He never met a stranger. He was known by many people and will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters. Dean is survived by his wife Tina of the home; 3 children: Mike Brown and wife Dee of Dalhart, Sherri Castonguay of Dalhart, and Tonya Acua and husband Mike of McLean, TX; grandchildren: Amber and Jorge Renteria and their children, McKenzie, Autumn, Bryan and Jorge L., Casey and Yanelli Kibby and their children, Corey and Sydney, Shane Thompson and his children, Spencer, Sterling and Dylan, Meagan and Jeff Cramer and their children, Hunter, Jake and Adalee, Mikayla and Michael Kersey and their children, AyyDenn, Aaliyah , and Andrew, Taylor and Morgan Crawford, Dalton Castonguay and his child, Raelynn, Shannon Acua, Jordan Crawford, Savannah and Cody Wolfe and their child, Canyon, Kaylie Crawford, Samantha and Jonathan Colby along with several nieces and nephews.
