Troy Walter Wharton, 74, of Dalhart, died on Monday, April 4, 2016. Memorial services were at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Rita Blanca Lake Coliseum in Dalhart. Graveside services at Memorial Park Cemetery and a time for fellowship at the Coliseum did follow. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home in Dalhart. Troy was born on September 17, 1941 in Dallas, TX. He was the son of LeRoy (Roy) and Grace Collins Wharton. He married Betty Lewis on September 6, 1964 in Dalhart. They celebrated over 51 years together. Troy attended school at Sandia View Academy in Corrales, NM and Keene Adventist Academy in Keene, TX. He also attended junior college at Southwestern Adventist University. Troy served in the US Army from 1962-1965. He was stationed at Ft Polk Louisiana, Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio and Selfridge Air Force Base in Mt Clemens, MI where he was a Medical Specialist. After serving in the military, Troy returned to the family ranch and has ranched in Dallam and Hartley counties his entire life. If Troy wasnt checking cattle in his pickup or on horseback, then he was checking them from the air. Troy obtained his pilots license when he was 16 years old and spent many hours in his Cessna 195 and Piper Super Cub. Troy was also an auctioneer. He traveled to many states selling farm and ranch equipment, livestock and charity events. He had a love for hunting and fishing and had taken numerous trips with family and friends through the years, including several to New Mexico, Colorado and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), where he made some very special friendships and memories. Troy is survived by his wife, Betty, and four daughters; RaLynda Christie and husband, Carson, of Amarillo; Traleia Wing and Bill Hodnett of Bushland; Tanya Lyon and husband, Tony, of Dalhart; Toyia Senter and husband, Chuck, of Ropesville. His grandchildren are Stormy Wing; Laramie George and husband, Richard; Tex Wing; Chirae Christie; Cayde Christie; Tylo Lyon; Timber Lyon; Sayer Senter; Sutton Senter; and Seaver Senter. His great grandchildren are Paislee Wing and Suede Wing. He is also survived by a sister, Aline Nolan, two nieces, one nephew, and several cousins.
