Tom C. Whitehurst, 77, died Wednesday, May 11,2011 in Dalhart, Texas.

Services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Dalhart, Texas. Officiating was Jeff Wilkerson. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Thomas Connely Whitehurst was born October 3, 1933 in Mount Pleasant, TX to John T. and Martha Ann (Cloud) Whitehurst.
He grew up on ranch in the Ft. Worth area, he then moved to the Bovina, TX where he attended school. In 1948 the family moved to Clovis, NM where he attended high school. After high school he moved to Abilene where he married Claudette Lambert and they had two children, Tracey Whitehurst and Dayna Whitehurst McIntire. Later he moved back to Clovis, NM and drove truck for El Rancho Milling Co. Later when the Swift plant opened in Clovis, NM, Tom was hired as the Utility Man and was capable of doing any job in the plant. He then went to work for Panhandle Steel, where he learned to erect steel buildings and grain bins. In 1959 he married Lynn Pace and they had three children, Robin Whitehurst, Tommie Lynn Whitehurst, Becky Whitehurst Ferrell, he also raised Lynns two children, Mike and Jerri Lynn which he later adopted. Then he went into the construction business of his own, Whitehurst Steel Erectors. He later relocated the business to Dalhart, TX in 1973. In that year he met his partner in life, his loving wife Glenda Garrett. He became the father of two more children that he raised as his own, Shelli Bradford and Tonya Garrett. To say Tom Whitehurst was a family man is an understatement. During all the years of the family owned business, all the boys worked beside Tom hand in hand. Whitehurst Steel Erectors has always been innovators for the grain bin industry. Tom never met a stranger and was never without a joke to tell. He will be greatly missed by all, farmers, friends, family and people he associated with in life. He loved dancing, telling jokes, growing roses, playing dominoes, and being with his family and friends. His accomplishments were the first to build a grain bin over a concrete hopper, and developed the slip to auger. He was a member of the Dalhart Elks Lodge, the Ambassador, and NRA.
Tom is survived by his wife Glenda Whitehurst of Dalhart, TX. SonsTracey Whitehurst of Dalhart, TX, Mike Whitehurst of Pollock Pine, CA, Robin K. Whitehurst of Dalhart, TX. Daughters Dayna McIntire of Abilene, TX, Jerri Lynn Love of Brok Arrow, OK, Tommy Lynn Whitehurst of Dalhart, TX, Becky Ann Ferrell of Dalhart, TX and Tanya Garrett of Canyon, TX.
