Terry Shannon Matthews, 81, died Friday, February 22, 2019 in Dalhart, TX. Graveside Services were held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX with Hugh Schwartz officiating. Terry Matthews was born August 30, 1937 in Dalhart, Texas to John Clinton and Velma May (Wright) Matthews. Terry attended Dalhart Schools until his Junior year when he left school to work as a carpenter with his dad and three brothers (known around town as the "Matthews Boys.") On January 14, 1958 he married the love of his life Donna Frazier in Clayton, New Mexico. Together they had four children, Kimberly, Kevin, Markus and Lawana. In 1960 Terry was drafted in the Army and served until his discharge in 1962. Upon his return he continued to work with his dad and brothers until his father passed away. Terry then worked with his brother J. C. "Bud" until he retired. Through the years Terry often had his sons working alongside him helping with jobs. Terry loved spending time sharpening scissors, saw blades and knives. Terry was the kind of man who would help anyone he could. He had a wonderful sense of humor that his children truly enjoyed. He loved to make his children laugh, especially at the dinner table. There were times he was sent out of the room by Donna so his children would stop laughing and finish their dinner. He has left behind so many wonderful memories. Terry is survived by his four children; Kimberly Gasper and husband Randy of Borden Indiana, Kevin Matthews and wife Velinda of Dalhart, Texas, Markus Matthews of Dalhart, Texas, and Lawana Hey and husband Roger of Dalhart, Texas. Brothers: Bob Matthews and wife Vicki of Dalhart, Texas and Don Matthews and wife Wanda of Dalhart, Texas. Twelve grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna Frazier Matthews (1993) and one brother J.C. "Bud" Matthews (2005).
