Stewart Calvin Johnson (July 21, 1934 February 16, 2020) Stewart Calvin Johnson, 85 of Dalhart Texas, died Sunday February 16, 2020. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Central United Methodist Church at 10:00 am. Officiants were Josh Stueve, Louis Artho, and Paul Hill. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart, Texas under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home. He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Evelyn Johnson, infant brother Cecil Calvin Johnson Jr. and one sister Sydney Bass Emerson. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Johnson of Dalhart. Three children Yvonne Artho husband Louis of Dalhart, Valerie Ridenour husband Richard of Amarillo, Tx, and Cecil Johnson of Dalhart. Eight grandchildren Jeff Artho (Erica), Gary Artho (Keela), Keith Artho (Jaclyn), Abby Craft (Sean), Sarah McWhorter (Austin), Seth Ridenour, Ben Artho (Taryn), Rebecca Artho (Victor Traves), and sixteen great grandchildren. Stewart Calvin Johnson, born July 21, 1934, in Dalhart Texas. He graduated from Dalhart High School, attended the University of Texas and served in the National Guard and Reserves before volunteering on active duty in the U. S. Army and being stationed overseas in Munich, Germany between 1956 - 1958. He was in law enforcement work for 23 years, from 1961 to 1984. In his law enforcement career, he served with the Police Departments in Hereford and Dalhart, TX. Then in 1965 joining the Hartley County Sheriffs Department as Deputy then as Sheriff in 1978. As a member of the Law Enforcement community he served on many boards and committees. Board of Directors of the Texas Panhandle Community Action Corporation as president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer, Sheriffs Association of Texas, Five State Peace Officers Association, United Peace Officers of America, Panhandle Regional Planning Commission on Law Enforcement Committee, Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy at Amarillo College. He served as a Dalhart Volunteer Firefighter from 1966 until retirement, chairman of the Dallam Hartley Sherman Dist. of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Mason and Past Master of the Rock Island Lodge #869. Memorials may be made to the building fund at Central United Methodist Church.
