Shirley Elizabeth (Davis) Miller, 90 died on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Germantown, TN with her family by her side.Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Central United Methodist Church in Dalhart. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TXOfficiating was Steve Paterson, Minister of the Central United Methodist Church, Dalhart, TXShirley Elizabeth Davis born January 20, 1918 in Moses, New Mexico to Herb and Sarah Davis. Being the baby of eight children, she grew up as a very giving and loving person. At the age of 22 months, Sarah died due to complications at child birth causing the family to be separated among family members. Shirley and her sister, Margaret, were sent to live with their Aunt and Uncle where the attended Clayton schools and graduated. Love springs eternal and on March 27, 1937 she married Delmer Miller. They remained in Clayton for four years and then moved to Dallas; in 1941 they moved to Brady. Over the years they had four children: Maurice, Sally, Melinda, and Stanley. Uncle Sam called and between 1940-1945 Delmer trained in the U.S. Air Corps Cadet which rated him as the Wing Commander and Director of Flying. In September 1945 he was discharged and one month later they founded Plains Aero Service in Amarillo.Shirley has been involved in many organizations in Dalhart including, PTA, Room Mother, and a supporter of Rainbow Girls. She was a chairman of the Red Cross and Heart Association and American Cancer Society. She was Dalharts Citizen of the Year in 1987. Central United Methodist Church was also a special part of Shirleys life. At the church she served as a Sunday school teacher, chairman of the Fellowship Committee, and a member of the Pastor Parish Committee. She offered her time to many community projects such as being the director of Meals On Wheels for many years. She committed her time to getting the senior citizens center formed and operating. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she promoted the scholarship fund and worked with underprivileged students in the Head Start program. Many citizens in Dalhart will tell you about how much time and effort Shirley devoted to everything that she did. She was well loved and will truly missed throughout the town.Survivors include her Daughter- Melinda & Rusty Olson of Germantown, TN their children -Granddaughters: Megan Tuggle of Ladera Ranch, CA. & Kirstin Olson of Dalhart, TX. Grandsons: Chad Olson & Cody Olson of Germantown, TN. Shirley follows her recently deceased husband: Delmer Maurice Miller and son: Maurice Delmer Miller his wife: Lee Miller of Ardmore, OK and their children: Granddaughters: Shelly McClenny of Plano, TX Tiffany Guenther of Tucson, AZ & Brook Parker of Guthrie, OK Grandson: John Miller of Ardmore, OK & 9 Great-Grandchildren: Hailey, Tarah, Michael, Joshua, Caleb, Julie, Brake, Taylor, and Dylan and many other family & friends.
