Shirley Koehn Becker was born July 21, 1956 in Newton, Kansas, to Louie and Florence Koehn. She departed this life on April 6, 2023 at the family home east of Texline. She received her formal education in Burns, Kansas. Her childhood was a happy time, doing farm chores with her siblings and helping her father at the Purina Feed Store. At the age of 13, she responded to the Lords call, surrendered her heart to God, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on December 28, 1969. She remained faithful to her vows and grew in grace throughout her life. Dad and Mom were married May 9, 1976, at Burns, Kansas, and their wedding trip ended at the little, white house east of Texline, Texas, but the honeymoon had just begun. They spent the next 46 years living life to the fullest. Together, they tamed a piece of the Texas Panhandle, raised their family, and took an active part in the new and growing congregation. The church mission programs became an important part of their lives. In 1987, Delbert and Shirley took their three young boys to the Philippine Islands. They shared their lives and hearts with the Philippine people for the next three years. After coming home, we were thrilled to have Laura, "Sis" join our family. It seemed to us like God called her home early when she left us, at the age of 9, in a tragic accident. Mom lost some of her joy, but she found fulfillment by continuing to share her motherly love with numerous girls Lauras age. She had a warm way of making each person feel special. This was felt by Dad, each one of us children, all of the grandchildren, and those with whom she came in contact. In 1991, Delbert was called to the Deaconry. He was ordained on December 9, and Shirley faithfully supported him throughout the years in his calling. She will be greatly missed by: her husband, Delbert; three sons; Jeff and Monica, and Clark and Melody of Texline, Texas; and Craig and Deanna of Elkton, Virginia; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Warren Koehn, and one sister, Gayla and Lynn Koehn. She was preceded in death by their only daughter, Laura; her parents, Louie and Florence Koehn; and one brother, DeVon Koehn.
