Shannon Boatman Poppy, died Thursday, September 20, 2012 in Dumas, TXA Graveside Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX.Shannon Larry Boatman Poppy was born in Healdsburgh, CA. April 12, 1937 to Edna Lea Davis and Daniel Mose Boatman. In 1941 at the age of 4 Shannon returned to Dalhart with his family where he attended Dalhart Schools until the age of 16. He joined the U.S. Air Force at age 16 serving in Ardmore, Okla at Ardmore Air Force Base. While there he met and married Vivian Blanton, fathering a son, Shannon Ray in 1956. Shortly after Shannon divorced and married Rosetta May on Oct. 25, 1956. He served in the military until 1961. During this time he fathered a second son, Kenneth and two daughters, Debra and Linda. After returning to civilian life he worked in the oil fields of Missouri until 1963. Shannon and his family returned to Dalhart in 1963 where he went to work at Coon Memorial Hospital and in a partnership operating two local motels. In 1966 Shannon worked full time with the railroad. In his 34 years with the railroad he worked for Rock Island, Union Pacific and BNSF staying in Dalhart and raising his children. He retired in 2000, choosing to stay home enjoying his favorite past times with family and friends playing dominos, Parcheesi, golfing and motorcycles. He and Rosetta were married 56 years.He is survived by his wife: Rosetta of Dalhart, TX Sons: Shannon and wife Sherry of Ardmore, OK, Kenneth and Karen Boatman of Dumas, TX, Daughters: Debbie and husband Patrick Little of Dalhart, Linda and husband Alvon Williams of El Paso, TX, Brother: Kenneth and Jan Boatman of Dalhart, TX, Sisters: Maebelle Barrett of Coweta, OK, Lore Lee Raybern of St. John, KS, Jackie Gray of Dalhart, TX, Bobbie and John Sutton of Amarillo, TX.10 grandchildren Sherrie Rule of Dalhart, TX, Brad Boatman of San Antonio, TX, Reese Ramold of Columbia, MO, Matt Boatman of Dumas, TX, Chance Britten of Dalhart, TX, A.J. Williams of El Paso, TX, Kayla Williams of Johnson City, TN, Ali Boatman Taylor of Ardmore, OK., Jimmy and Jacob Tynes of Ardmore, OK. 5 great-grandchildren
