Ruby Lee McCown 92, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in Stamford, TX.Services were held Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11:00 am at Lakeview United Methodist Church, Dalhart, Texas under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home.Ruby Lee Clements was born to Walter H. and Bettie May (Wilson) Clements in Stratford, Texas on September 1, 1923. Her family moved to Perico, Texas and she attended school there. They then moved to Dalhart where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1941. Ruby met Austin McCown in Dalhart and they were married in Clayton, NM on July 20, 1941. They lived on a ranch near Borger for a time and then moved back to Dalhart, Austin served in World War II for three years. Ruby went to Little Rock, AR, and Medford, OR to be near him until he was shipped overseas. She then returned to her parents farm near Dalhart. Austin was discharged when the war ended. The McCowns made Dalhart their home from 1945 to 1956. Their only child, Peggy was born on October 30, 1947. Austin worked as foreman of the Langford Ranch at Texline and they lived on the ranch from 1956 to 1979, when he passed away. Ruby then bought a home in Dalhart and lived there until 2008, at which time she moved to Haskell, TX. She moved to the nursing home in Stamford in December 2010, where she lived until she passed away. She enjoyed gardening & flowers. Her family was very important to her and she loved to help others. While in Dalhart she was a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center.Survivors include her Daughter & husband: Peggy and Bob Bleiker of Hawley, TX Grandson & his wife: Glen & Debbie Bleiker of Rockport, TX, Granddaughter & her husband: Dawn & Travis Fladager of Anson, TX, Great-Granddaughter and her husband: Kylie & Rhys Hauge: Great-Grandson: Austin Bleiker, Great-Granddaughter: Jami Bleiker, Great-Granddaughter, Josie Fladager, Great-Grandson: Wyatt Fladager.She is preceded by her Husband, Parents, four brothers, one sister.
