Rosa Maria Perez-Gonzales, 62, died March 10, 2012 in Dumas, TX with her family by her side.A memorial service were heldl at La Primera Iglesia Bautista at 2:00 pm on Thursday March 15, 2012. She was born on September 8, 1949 to Felipia Estevan in Edinburg Texas. She attended school in Austin, TX until about age 11, then her family moved to Hale Center where she later met her husband Leandro Gonzales. Rosa and Leandro only knew each other for a month and a half before they married on August 7, 1965. Leandro said he knew he was going to marry her the first time he saw her, and Rosa said she knew she was going to marry him the moment he said she would never have to work again! They have been happily married in Dalhart, TX for 46 years. She enjoyed the town very much and said the people were always friendly and kind to her and her family. Some of her favorite hobbies were sewing, cooking and helping others any way she could. Rosa worked as a hotel maid, nursing home assistant, Owner of Mi Cocina Restaurant from March 24, 1994-May 17, 1995 and a homemaker. Her Pride and Joy as she would say were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her six children: Martin, Ramon, Adelydia, Leandro IV Jr., Benjamin, Jeremias and her eighteen grandchildren. Rosa Gonzales served and loved the Lord faithfully as a member of La Primera Iglesia Bautista. One of her favorite verses was Matthew 6:33-34.
