Robert Earl Stout, 71, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Services were held at First Christian Church in Dalhart, Texas on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas. Robert was born on Wednesday, December 15, 1948 to Roy and Marjory (Logan) Stout. Robert grew up in Dalhart and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1967. Robert was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Dalhart. After graduation Robert attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri. While in college, Robert met his wife Rena McElwee. Robert and Rena were married on June 15, 1970. Robert graduated college with a degree in Sacred Literature and was a minister for several years. Robert later decided to join the Police Academy. Law Enforcement was a strong tradition in the Stout Family. Robert felt he could continue the law enforcement tradition of his family and show people the love of Jesus at the same time. Robert joined the Joplin, Missouri Police Department in 1973. He worked as a Police Officer in Joplin until 1981. Robert moved back to Dalhart in 1981, because he missed Dalhart, and he wanted to be closer to his parents. He started working for the Dalhart Police Department in 1981. He worked for the Dalhart Police for 32 years before retiring as a Captain in 2013. The City of Dalhart retired his Badge #222 in his honor at his retirement ceremony. The following year in 2014, Robert was chosen as The Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. After Roberts retirement, he went to work at the Dalhart Prison from 2013 until 2016. Robert has been working at the Horizon Funeral Home since 1986. He loved working at the funeral home and getting to share his faith and friendship with all the families in need. Serving people is what made Robert Stout the happiest. He loved to volunteer and serve communion/devotion at the Coon Memorial Home. His passion for children was highly noticed around Christmas time with his many years of playing Santa, as well as, going above and beyond his police officer duties by making sure all the children made it safely across the street at the elementary school. He also took great pride in caring for Pearl and Don for many years. Roberts mission in life was to show the love of Jesus to anyone who was around him. Robert is survived by his wife, Rena, his sister Eula and husband Jim McKay of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, son Logan and wife Melissa Stout of Amarillo, son Troy Stout and Amanda Pickert of Portland, Oregon, daughter Sabrena Stout of Canyon, son Luke and wife Catherine Stout of Canyon. Grandchildren: Blaide and Slater Stout, Lyric Page, Madelyn and Mallory Stout, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Marjory Stout.
