Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home Dalhart, TexasOfficiants were Jerry Moore, Pastor of Central United Methodist Church, Dalhart, TX and Barry Walker, minister of the First Christian Church of Dalhart, TexasRobert Alston Langhorne, Sr. was born June 7, 1910 to Joseph and Nellie (Alston) Langhorne in Dalhart, Texas. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1927. On February 18, 1934 he married Mary Kirk in Clayton, NM. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast who loved fly fishing and any other fishing. He played and excelled in all sports including tennis, baseball and golf. Bob was Club Champion at the Dalhart Country Club six times. Bob was a 1928 charter member of the Ambassador Club and remained active for over 70yrs. He served with H. Coon on the Coon Hospital Board Mr. Langhorne was City Councilman for four years, and Mayor of Dalhart for two years. Active in Dalhart Chamber of Commerce, the Dalhart Lions club (he served as president for two separate terms).Mr. Langhorne was known for serving as Master of Ceremonies for many banquets and civic Occasions. Past chairman of the United Fund, one of the organizers of the 55 plus club and served as its financial chairman. An active member of the Dalhart country Club he served on the Board of Directors and had served as president three different times. He served on the Girl Scout Board. Mr. Langhorne started an Insurance Agency and Real Estate Business in 1945, leaving the Business in 1968 to become trust officer & Vice President at The Citizens State Bank. Upon retirement He & Mary spent their summers in Gunnison, CO, enjoying friends, fishing, traveling & their family.Even after retirement he was instrumental in the settlement of the Cleo Jenkins Estate that resulted in the Scholarships for High school Seniors in Dallam and Hartley Counties. To date the scholarships have totaled more than $1.2 Million. He is survived by his wife Mary of Dalhart, Son Robert A Langhorne, Jr. of Dalhart, TX daughters Beth Ross of Clovis, NM and Susan Langhorne of Denver, CO 12 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildrenPreceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 2 grandsons.
