Robert S. Clay, 72 - died Monday, March 20, 2006 in Dalhart, TexasGraveside Memorial Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart, under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home.Robert Shelby Clay was born November 25, 1933 in Spur, Texas. He attended grade school, junior high & high school at Graham Texas. He attended Texas A & M University one year. He served in the U. S. Navy on active duty from 1955 to 1957, Patrol Squadron II Naval Aviation. He served in the Naval Reserve from 1957 to 1961. He was released with an Honorable Discharge. He moved to Seymour in August 1959 to manage the Shamburger & Clark Lumber CO. He bought the business in 1963 and changed the name to Home Lumber CO. He sold the business in 1989 to enable him to purchase the Dalhart Texan Newspaper. While in Seymour, he was very active in community events and clubs. He served as president of several organizations including Seymour Chamber of Commerce, Seymour Golf and Country Club, Seymour Lions Club, Seymour Rodeo & Reunion, Baylor County Little League, Baylor County Junior Livestock Show and the Baylor County Boy Scout Chapter. He was secretary-treasurer of the Seymour Industrial Foundation and director of the Lumbermens Association of Texas. He is a past master of the Seymour Masonic Lodge, AF & AM No. 604 and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine. He is also an Eagle Scout. Since his move to Dalhart he served as president of the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce, past Master and current secretary of the Rock Island Masonic Lodge AF&AM Lodge #869, Dalhart, Texas. He is presently a member of the Rotary Club. Clay is married to Susan (Hogue) Clay. He remained active in political and community events.
