Robert Adamson, 84, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Amarillo, TX.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 12, 2017 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Patterson, officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery under the care of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, TX.
Robert Dean Adamson was born July 18, 1932 in Post, Texas to Delbert and Bonnie (Williams) Adamson. Robert graduated from Tahoka High School in 1949, and from Texas Tech in 1953. From 1953 Mr. Adamson joined the U.S. Army, he served at Grand Island, NY and Wurzburg, Germany before being honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1955. He married Margaret Killian on July 18, 1959 in Antlers, OK. Robert served as County Extension Agent in the Texas Panhandle for over 32 years. 2 years in Gray county, 15 years in Hansford county and 15 years in Hartley county. He retired in 1987. Robert received many awards including the 1967 Hansford county soil fertility education program from the Texas Plant and Food Education Society and the 1983 Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Agriculture Extension Service.
Besides his woodworking, Robert used his spare time helping with auctions. 33 years with Reagan and Brown, then another couple with High Plains Auctioneers.
Mr. Adamsons dedication to his community was evident in his service as Jaycee President (1960) in Spearman, TX, President (1971) of the Texas Panhandle Square Dance Association, President (1980- 1982) Dalhart All Sports Booster Club. Robert taught and called Square Dances for more than 30 yrs.
Robert joined Central United Methodist Church in 1972 and served as President of the Sunday School Class, served on Administrative Board Committees, and served as Chairman of the Trustee Committee.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Adamson of Dalhart, TX, a son Kerry Adamson and wife Patty of Euless, TX, Keith Adamson and wife Olivia of San Antonio, TX, a grandson Ryan Adamson of Fair Oaks, TX and a granddaughter Camille Adamson of Midland, TX.
