Rita Elliott 67- died on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 in Amarillo, Texas.Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 26th at the First Baptist Church of Dalhart. Rodney Weatherly officiatied. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart, Texas.Rita Elliott was born August 12, 1941 in Los Alamos, Colorado into a family that eventually included eight children. She was raised in Dalhart and attended college at West Texas State University where she obtained a degree in business education. While in college, she was very involved in the Chi Omega Sorority, and was voted Most Beautiful by her sorority. After graduation, Rita returned to Dalhart and taught high school business. In 1964 she married Bobby Elliott and moved to Lubbock, Texas where they had their son, Robert Lee Elliott, III in 1967. In 1970, they moved back to Dalhart where she opened and ran a popular womens clothing store called Ritas Fashions for the next ten years. She later devoted herself to golfing and even became the Country Club Womens Golf Champion. Some of her other passions included tennis, fishing, sewing, listening to Elvis, spirited debate, and her time in Angel Fire, New Mexico. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Fern Dye, her sister Rogene, brothers John, Chet and Phillip, and her daughter Rogena Elliott.She is survived by her husband, Bob Elliott of Dalhart, Texas, her son, Rob Elliott and wife Margaret of Dalhart. Two granddaughters, Olivia and Robin Elliott, one brother, Jerry Dye and wife Lynn of Amarillo, Texas, sisters, LaMoyne Christy of Chula Vista, CA., and Clarene Chestnut and husband Bill of Texline, Texas. The family is deeply grateful for the services rendered by Hospice Care of the Southwest and requests memorials be mailed to 1301 Coulter, Ste. 404, Amarillo, Texas 79106 or First Baptist Church in Dalhart. Friends and family will be received at the home of Rob and Margaret Elliott, 1902 Monte Vista in Dalhart.
