Richard K. (Rick) Cunningham, 69, died Friday, August 10, 2018 in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 10:00 am in Central United Methodist Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under the care of Horizon Funeral Home. Richard Kraft Cunningham was born December 9, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Dr. John H. and Jane Ann (Kraft) Cunningham. The Cunningham family moved to Dalhart in 1953. Rick was an amazing athlete in school, excelling in football, basketball and track, he was voted best "all-around athlete" and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1967. On June 1, 1968 he married Glenda Chambers. Rick graduated from West Texas State University in 1971. He and Glenda moved to Dalhart that same year and raised their 3 children; Mark, Staci and Jeff. A lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, Rick was also a member of the Dalhart Lions Club, past director of the XIT Board (1983-1985), Mens Softball and Basketball leagues, and an avid supporter of OU football, Dallas Cowboys football and any event his children, and grandchildren were involved in. He enjoyed golf and could throw a "mean" golf club! Mr. Cunningham was a hard-working jack of all trades, could fix anything and was a master at giving nicknames. A selfless and strong family man, Rick was a loving husband, dad, grandad, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves behind his wife of over 50 years Glenda Cunningham of Dalhart, TX, his son Mark Cunningham and wife Julie of Lubbock, TX and their children: Lauren and Avery Cunningham, daughter Staci and her husband Scott Maddox of Dalhart, TX, and their children: Madison and husband Ryan Stenderup , Mason, Neely and Kammi Maddox, son Jeff Cunningham and wife Ashley of Argyle, TX, their children: Elle and Asher Cunningham, mother in law: Estelle Chambers of Dalhart, TX, Brothers: Bill Cunningham and his wife Marsha of Dalhart, TX, Bobby Cunningham and wife Carol of Lubbock, TX, a sister Marsha (Cunningham) Snead and husband Bud of Dalhart, TX. sisters in law: Deborah Zinnecker and husband Paul of Lubbock, TX, Judy Puckett and husband Bruce of Haughton, LA, Mattie Peterson and husband Larry of Fort Walton Beach, Fl and Olene Forcey and husband Steve of Denver, CO. 7 Grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren -Broxton and Bostyn Stenderup. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dr. John H. Cunningham, Jr. his father in law, Olen Chambers and nephews: Ray Allison Snead IV and Johnathan Windsor Snead.
