Randy Mac Sublette passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021. A family memorial service has been held.
Randy was born on May 20, 1950, to J. R. Sublette and Edna MacGill Sublette in Clovis, New Mexico. He grew up in Clovis and attended school there graduating from Clovis High School in 1968. Randy then joined the Army from 1969-1971 serving his time in Germany. After receiving an Honorable Discharge he relocated to Hereford, Texas, and soon moved to Dalhart while working for American Dusting Spray Co.
Randy met and married Carol Hogue, a Dalhart native, in November, 1972. Both attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University. He graduated from W.T.S.U. in 1975 with a BBA, in Accounting. They moved back to Dalhart and started farming in Hartley County from 1975 to 2006. For a period of time, he was the bookkeeper for Lynn Hill, at Hill Tractor, which was very welcoming work to supplement the financially tough times on the farm.
Randy enjoyed serving in the community of Dalhart as President of Dalhart Consumers Association, Hartley County President of Texas Farm Bureau, and President of the Inter-State Fair. He also served as an XIT Director as Secretary-Treasurer for two years and President for one year from 1985-1987.
In 1998 Randy was awarded the Lone Star Land Steward Award for the High Plains District. At that time, Randy was the only landowner west of Fort Worth to receive this award. Since 1994, Randy planted more than 4,000 trees, including various deciduous trees, evergreens, and shrubs, around the farm to reduce soil erosion and to provide wildlife shelters. On an occasional field day event, fifth grade students helped plant trees. With the assistance of Quail Unlimited, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and NRCS, Randy embraced his passion for conservation and for preserving wildlife so much that he seeded large areas on the farm to help encourage the pheasant, quail, and deer population to flourish.
