Phil Like, 94 of Dalhart, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 pm Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home.
Shortly after high school, Phil joined his brother Charlie in Dalhart where their natural entrepreneurial spirits started Like Bros Used Cars. In 1966, Phil Like Motors had their grand opening as the Cadillac and General Motors dealership, which was located alongside his brothers Auto Body Shop. He had a passion to support the community by providing cars for the students in driver education classes and helping with the XIT celebrations. Phil said, "We would never have been a success if it had not been for the good people of Dalhart!"
Phil had many talents and loved to share those experiences with his family. In 1960, he got his pilot license and enjoyed flying along with buying and selling airplanes. He and his wife Marilyn of 46 years loved to travel together exploring many other countries. He was a self-taught pianist playing popular pieces by ear. He once played in the John R Cannon Band and one year played at the XIT celebration. Phil also enjoyed time with his family on his farm in Hartley and many successes with his racehorses and cattle endeavors.
Phils entrepreneurial spirit did not retire with him in 2006. He kept himself busy starting Phil Like Inc, planning and developing properties. Phil was a diverse, charismatic businessman that knew no end to what he could accomplish.
Phil is survived by a daughter: Linda Westrich and her husband Bob, their children: Shana and Cassi, four great-grandchildren Brandon, Brianna, Allison, and Brady, and one great-great-granddaughter Ariella. A nephew Butch Like and a niece Barbara Ewing. He is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Like, a son Larry Like and grandson Casey Like.
