Patricia B. Kirkeminde, 85, of Channing, Texas, died Friday, April 16, 2010. Graveside services were held at the Channing Cemetery, 11:00 am on Saturday, April 24. Reverend George Chambers officiatedPatricia was born on July 22, 1924 to Dennis and Elsie Barclay. She grew up in Manhattan, Kansas and attended (then) Kansas State College. From 1944 to 1945, she served in the WAAC as a corporal. Following her military service, she returned to KSC, where she met her future husband W.P. Kirkeminde. The two were married on July 6, 1946. In 1949, Patricia graduated from KSC; later, in 1970, she received her MA in Education from Tennessee Technological University.Patricia was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Her keen mind and sense of curiosity never wavered, even during her brave struggle with illness during her last years. She was an inspiration to her family and her many friends. In the 1960s and 1970s in Crossville, Tennessee, Patricia worked first at WAEW radio station and later as a high school English teacher. She was also a longtime member of AVMA Auxiliary and served as national president 1978-1979. On July 4, 1984, Patricia and Bill moved from Crossville, Tennessee, where they had raised their four children and Bill had practiced veterinary medicine for 30 years, to Channing, Texas. Patricias special interest was historical research. From 1985 to 2006, she served on the Hartley County Historical Committee. Patricia authored The History of Veterinary Medicine in Tennessee (1976) and a short history, Cumberland Homesteads As Viewed by the Newspapers (1977). Other of her favorite projects included the history of the XIT General Office in Channing, Texas and the 1900 Hartley County Texas Census (1991). Survivors include her husband W. P. Kirkeminde of Channing, TXDaughters: Shirley Barclay of Wyoming, MI and Katherine and her husband Dorsey Bass of Palo Alto, CA, Sons: W. Paul Kirkeminde of Grand Isle, LA and Kirk J. and his wife Rose Kirkeminde of Crossville, TN, Grandsons Justin Oliver of Wyoming, MI and Dorsey M.
