Orville Henry Finch Jr., 96, passed away in Dalhart, Texas on Monday, February 22, 2021. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at Central United Methodist Church in Dalhart, Texas. Josh Stueve officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home. With consideration for others, we do ask that all those in attendance wear masks and observe social distancing. Orville Henry Finch Jr. was born on Monday, July 28, 1924 in Dalhart, Texas to Orville Henry Finch and Olive (Pendelton) Finch. He graduated from Dalhart High School at the age of 16 then went on to attend Kemper Military School where he was drafted into the Army in 1943. He served his country proudly from 1943 until 1946 in that time he fought in WWII in the 782nd Tank Battalion. After his time in the military, he went on to graduate from the University of Texas, then returned home to Dalhart to help his father work and run his family ranch for many years. A few years later the new Home Economics teacher caught his eye and on February 28, 1960 he married Leabelle (Sluder). They later had two children, Carl and Donna. Orville has always been an active member of the Dalhart community. He served as an XIT Director from 1961-1964, he was on the board of the Citizens State Bank for several years, held many places on various church boards at Central United Methodist Church and he was an instrument rated pilot. He loved spending time with his family, flying, painting and using his many musical talents playing piano and guitar with his family and friends. Orville is survived by his wife Leabelle (Sluder) Finch of Dalhart, Texas, a son, Carl Finch and wife Michelle, 3 grandchildren: Maegan and husband Gene Frische, Caleb Finch and wife Staci and Taylor Sewell and wife Stephanie, 8 great grandchildren, nephew, Gary Finch and wife Ann, and a niece, Jeni D. and husband Bobby Brunson. Orville is preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Loven Finch, parents, Orville Henry Finch and Olive (Pendelton) Finch and brother, Allyn Finch and wife Laura.
