Interment will follow in Texline Mennonite Cemetery. Mr. Smith will lay in state from 9 o clock in the morning until 4 o clock in the afternoon on Friday at the funeral home. Orlie David Smith was born to Davy and Dena Redger Smith on May 19, 1945 at Newton Kansas.
He was joined in marriage to Glenda May Koehn on September 19, 1965 and they enjoyed almost 50 years of married life before her passing.
His growing up years were in the Burns, Kansas community where he started his farming career. In the spring of 1975, they moved to the Texline Community where they were one of the charter members of the Texline Mennonite Church. After a short time in Perico, they moved to the Sedan community where they lived while raising their five boys.
Dad was a basic farmer at heart he wasnt one to try innovative methods and ideas in his farming practices satisfied with raising corn and wheat and pasturing cattle in the winter.
In the later years, our parents enjoyed traveling and socializing. Dad was Moms faithful companion and caregiver during Moms extended battle with cancer. Even after Moms passing, Dad continued to travel, especially enjoying visiting his children and grandchildren.
He enjoyed tinkering with old tractors and enjoyed grilling for family and friends. We had anticipated his sunset years to be spent in Texline around his family, friends, and community, but God had a different plan for him.
He was a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. His confidence and love of the Church and her leadership is an inspiration to his family and the congregation.
He is survived by his five sons; Randy and Glennis, Texline, Texas, Steve and Valeta, Surprise, Arizona, Russ and Becky, Dalhart, Texas, Galen and Christy, Sutherland, Nebraska, Les and Janell, Piggott, Arkansas, 31 Grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one infant son, and his parents.
