Oran Gossett, 82 died on Tuesday, May 02, 2006 in Amarillo, Texas.Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6th, 2006 at St. James Episcopal Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, Texas. the Celebrand was Reverend Father Ken MacKenzie. Floyd Oran Gossett was born September 28, 1923 in Des Moines, NM to Floyd and Anne (Rowlett) Gossett raised in Des Moines, Oran was captain of the football team and graduated from Des Moines High School in 1940. He moved to Dalhart after he graduated and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1943 Oran was a tail gunner and Bombardier in the U.S. Air Force and was shot down over Europe He was a P.O.W. for over a year before being released at the end of WWII. He returned to Dalhart after the war and married Lois Polk on November 22, 1947 in Des Moines, NM Oran farmed and ranched in the Dalhart area as well as in New Mexico. He was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and had served as Junior and Senior Warden many times. Oran was a member of the Ambassadors Club and received his 50 yr pin from the Rock Island Masonic Lodge; Oran was also a member of the Elks Lodge and former XIT rodeo and reunion director, and a past Lion.
