Ola McCarty, 91, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in Dalhart, Texas.Funeral Services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Dalhart Church of Christ with burial in Texline Cemetery, Texline, TX, under the direction of Horizon Funeral HomeOla Iona McCarty was born Ola Iona Masten on a small farm near Ramah New Mexico December 7, 1917. Her dad died when she was two weeks old so she soon moved to Quitaque Texas area and lived with her cousins and grandparents for the next six years in that general area. When she was 6 her mother married Will Brown and the family moved to Chalk Mountain to make a home there for the next 12 years. In the fall of 1935 she married Otto McCarty and they made their way to the Dallam County in Texas and before long settled on the McCarty homestead near Felt Okla. They had two sons Edwin (Red) in 1941 and Gene in 1946. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and homemaking and was very busy raising a family. She really enjoyed baking for the county fair but was frustrated that she often came out in second place with her homemade bread. We were sure that her bread was good enough to win and what she didn't win at the fair she made up for at home when we devoured her baking. She enjoyed sewing for the neighbors and had a little income from making nice dresses. She always wanted a girl of her own but had to wait for her granddaughter. She loved her grandkids and treasured the times they would visit. She and Otto were lifelong members of the Texline Church of Christ and took their church involvement very seriously. Shoes were to be shined, clothes were to be ready and lessons were to be studied. One of the things she enjoyed most was preparing meals and inviting guests to come have Sunday dinner at the farm. Many preachers enjoyed a meal at her table. In addition to the normal church activity she worked with World Bible School marking answer sheets and encouraging students around the world in their Bible study. After Otto died she moved to Texline and in particular enjoyed being near so many friends at church. As the years grew long she had more and more trouble taking care of herself so she chose to move to the Coon Memorial Nursing Home in Dalhart. Again, she enjoyed being close to the church and was glad to be able to walk to church when she felt up to it. She enjoyed many opportunities for fellowship with the church and appreciated so much all the encouragement that so many from church brought to her life in her last days. In her last weeks still one of her hopes was to get feeling better and get back to church.Ola is survived by her Sons Edwin McCarty of Puryear Tenn.and Gene McCarty and his wife Eleanor of Knox City, Texas.Granddaughter Laura White and her husband Delbert of Livingston Montana.Grandson David McCarty and his wife Jennifer of Dallas Texas Preceded in death by Her father and her mother and her brother and her husband Otto McCarty of Felt Okla.Memorials may be made to: Texline church of Christ 211 E.
