Norval Charles Karns, 96, died Saturday, October 27, 2018 in Dalhart, TexasVisitation was held on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Horizon Funeral Home.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Central United Methodist Church, 601 Rock Island Avenue in Dalhart, Texas. Arrangements provided by Horizon Funeral Home, in Dalhart. Norval Charles Karns was born on May 12, 1922 in Saline County, IL to Edward and Mary (Harrelson) Karns. Norval was a proud World War II veteran, who served in the Navy on a patrol torpedo boat, PT-342. On October 12, 1957, he married Lela Stine and moved to Lincoln Park, MI. He owned a jewelry shop in Toluca, IL, and later worked for Caterpillar in Peoria, IL, for 19 years. The best years of his life were spent camping, fishing and vacationing with his beloved family. After retiring, Norval and Lela enjoyed life and adventures in Lake Placid, FL, for twenty memorable years. They moved to Dalhart in 2005 to be closer to family and enjoyed winters in South Texas. Norval was an avid fisherman and had a creative passion for woodworking and gardening. He loved traveling the country and was especially proud to have driven to Alaska twice. Norval and Lela recently celebrated their 61st anniversary. Norval is survived by his wife, Lela, of Dalhart, TX, and his daughters, Sherry Griffin of IL, Karen Lawrence of San Antonio, Janet Wilson of Dalhart, Kathy Curry and husband, Jim, of Rochester, NY, and Jeri Faber and husband, John, of Twin Lakes, WI, as well as 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua Vogel and wife Stephanie of Dalhart, Juston Wilson and wife Macy of San Antonio and their children, Gracie and Charlotte, Jonathan Wilson of Honolulu, HI, Jessica Wilson of Maple Valley, WA, Jarret Wilson of Dallas, Douglas Miller of San Antonio, Michael and David Curry of Gaithersburg, MD, Zach Faber of Salem, WI, and Kyle Faber of Twin Lakes, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
