Norma Jean (Harper) Hammett walked into the arms of her savior on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the age of 93, and the eternal life she could only imagine before is now a joyful reality for her. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronnie Hammett of Dalhart, daughter Julie Conlee (John) of The Colony, Texas, Mike Hammett (Karen) of Amarillo, Texas; as well as five grandchildren, Justin Conlee, Jordan Conlee, Joshua Conlee, Chase Hammett, and Brandon Hammett. She is also survived by many much loved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley Charles, and Hester Caroline (Carrie) Harper and her brothers Stanley Harper Jr. and Donald Harper. Norma Jean Harper was born in St. Charles Missouri on April 26, 1929 to Stanley Charles Harper Sr. and Hester Caroline (Carrie) Harper. The little princess, called "Babe" by her father, was the baby of the family, and the only girl. She had two older brothers, Stanley Jr. and Donald, both of whom she greatly loved and admired. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and became `the beloved "fun" aunt to her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own. On September 2, 1961 she married the love of her life, Ronnie Hammett, in July of 1963 their daughter Julie was born, and they made their home in Kansas City Missouri. After a few years, Ronnie had the opportunity to move back to his hometown, Dalhart, Texas, so they settled in Dalhart where she lived the remainder of her life as a stay-at-home mom and supportive wife. After moving to Dalhart, her family was complete when their son Michael was born in September of 1968. Norma was an active member of the First Christian Church where she delighted in serving in any way she could. While her children were young, she enjoyed serving in the Childrens Hour after school program, and was for many years the volunteer Funeral Meal Coordinator at the church. She could coordinate a meal for a family in record time and knew exactly how much meat would be needed to feed a crowd! She loved Jesus and spread joy and love to everyone who crossed her path. She loved her family and extended family and took great joy in family holidays with extended family all together. She was the favorite dessert maker; her cherry cheesecake being a family favorite. She had to make multiple pies to keep the many Hammett family members from fighting to get a piece! Norma lived a long and full life of love and generosity. The last few months of her life were spent at Coon Memorial Home, where she loved and received love from all of the staff. You couldnt help but love her, so that was not a surprise!
