Nira Marie Christian French Gross, 88 of Dalhart, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 11:00AM on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Randal Laney officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. Nira was born near Mt. Dora, Union County, New Mexico, November 12, 1933, to Sam and Victoria Durbin Christian. Nira attended elementary school at the Otto Community School west of Clayton, and later Clayton High School. After graduation in 1952, she worked for D.D. Monroe at the Union County Title Company. Nira married Melvin French December 11, 1952, and to this union were born two children: daughter, Lynn, and son, Brian. Melvin and Nira farmed and ranched in the Coldwater Community. Melvin passed in 1985 and Nira moved to Dalhart in 1988. Nira and Roy Gross married in Dalhart in 2003. Nira was preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings and both husbands. Survivors include brother, Gail Christian of Amarillo; daughter Lynn Sample, and her husband, Jerry of Fredericksburg; son, Brian French, and his wife Barbara of Coldwater Community; and grandson, Nathan French of Lakeway, Texas.
