Nevada Porter, 95, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Dalhart, TexasFuneral Services were held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Patterson, Pastor officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas.Nevada Vergie Albrecht Porter was born September 16, 1918 on the family farm in Guymon, Oklahoma to William and Viola Ritter Albrecht. She was the oldest of six children growing up during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl Days.Nevada graduated from Guymon High School and attended Panhandle State in Goodwell, Oklahoma.The love of her life, Ralph Woodrow Porter, met her in his grocery store in Guymon where he greeted her with a wink. The beautiful, blushing blue eyed blonde won his heart immediately. They were married in Clayton, New Mexico on March 30th, 1941. Ralph and Nevada were married 47 years raising their four children on the farm east of Dalhart. Nevada served as a volunteer for all of her childrens activities. 4-H Adult Leader, Satin and Saddle Riding Club sponsor, PTA Secretary, Central United Methodist Church Sunday School Secretary and Youth Sponsor, active member of the Petal Pushers Garden Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and a weekly bridge club. Many will remember her as the bookkeeper at Porter's Grocery Store.Nevada loved to travel and entertain. She planned many gatherings in the country home where the highlight was treating family and friends to Nevadas Texas Sheet Cake.On Sunday September 15, 2013, 29 family members gathered to celebrate her 95th birthday.Nevada was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph; a son, Gary Ralph Porter; one sister Eleanor; two brothers Wilbur and Bill.Survivors include her son Wayne and wife Edith Porter of Dalhart; daughter Diane and husband Allen Thompson of Sanger, Texas; daughter Debbie and husband Jim Brennen of Garland, Texas; two sisters Norma Fitzgerald of Surprise, Arizona and Viola McLearn and husband Skip of Altamonte Springs, Florida; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.Memorials may be made to the:Central United Methodist Church Building Fund - 517 Rock Island Ave. Dalhart, Texas 79022 Coon Memorial Hospice - 320 Texas Blvd. , Dalhart, Texas 79022
