Netha Lynn Gray Steel, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on March 22, 2018 in Dalhart, Texas. Graveside services were held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in the Dalhart Memorial Park Cemetery. Fr. Phil Ray, St. James Episcopal Church officiated. ~ Arrangements Provided by Horizon Funeral Home.
Netha was born November 19th, 1929 in Snyder, Texas to Valeta and John Gray.
After living in several West Texas communities during her childhood years, she moved to Dalhart when she was 12 years old and graduated Dalhart High School in 1947. She married Charles Winston Steel April 9, 1949; they were married for 68 years.
She loved her family and was a woman of immeasurable strength, a strength which came from her devout Christian beliefs. She developed many great friendships during her lifetime, both young and old alike. She was known for her warm heart and contagious personality; her smile and laugh were infectious. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Winston; two sons, John Winston Steel and David Lawrence (Larry) Steel; her parents, Valeta and John Gray; and sister, Imogene Cogburn.
Survivors include her daughter Jane Ann Steel Kelly of Amarillo; son Richard Steel and wife Pam of Big Spring; grandchildren Katy Kelly Flood and husband Tanner of Spring, Emily Kelly Lester and husband Dustin of Midland, Winston Steel Kelly and wife Cameron of Midland, Connor Winston Steel of Lubbock, and Jennie Ann Steel of Waco; great-granddaughter Riley Flood and great-grandson Steel Flood.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to La Rita Theatre, 311 Denrock, Dalhart, Tx. 79022 or Hidden Falls Ranch, P.O. BOX 136, Wayside, TX 79094.
Pallbearers are Michael David, Jeff Lloyd, Jay Peeples, Kevin Caddell, Greg Duggan, Dennis Shugart, Johnny Trujillo, and Brent Bishop.
