Nellie Morris, 91, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015 in Dalhart, Texas. Services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 14th, 2015 at Lincoln Street Baptist Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, under the care of Horizon Funeral Home.Officiating was Rusty Hancock pastor of Lincoln Street Baptist Church. Nellie Mae Morris (Hancock), was born April 27, 1923 in Texline, Texas to John and Edith (Walters) Hancock. She married Roy Morris in 1945 and had three children. Nellie worked for GTE Phone Company as an operator for 36 years and retired when a direct dial system became available. She was a cook for many places including The Dairy Cream, the Dalhart school district, Coronado feeders for 9 and a half years, where she started making her famous cinnamon rolls. Retiring from Coronado in 1990 she could not sit still, and went back to the school district. She then, decided to work at Hodies BBQ to make breakfast. There again she would share her famous cinnamon rolls with the town of Dalhart and many travelers from all over the country. Nellie was known for her hard work, friendly personality, and great cooking. She enjoyed baking and selling birthday and wedding cakes, crocheting and spending time with her family. She was a member of Lincoln Street Baptist Church where she was a volunteer for the childrens feeding program and helped prepare food for many funerals and events. She will be dearly missed by many, and lived a long and happy life. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents John and Edith Hancock, husband Roy, a son Thomas Leon, two brothers, and 4 sisters. She is survived by a sister-in-law Vera Hancock of Dalhart, brother-in-law Bill Alton and wife Betty of California, step brother Sam Jones of Odessa, step sister Estella Turnbow of Odessa, her son Tommy Morris and wife Ronda of Hartley, daughter Terri Griggs and husband Roy of Dalhart. Her grandkids Robert Morris and wife Selena of Amarillo, Doug Morris of Richland Missouri, Shanni Stapleton of Dalhart, Sean Stapleton and wife Chasity of Westminster SC, Cody Stapleton and wife Jorja of Dalhart, Mellissa Brewer and her husband Brian of Dalhart, Johnny Griggs of Dalhart, Serena Balenti of Palmer Lake CO, Ariana Gaddy and her husband Justin of Pacific Junction Iowa , and Cameron Foster of Hartley. 19 great grand kids, and three great great grandkids, and numerous niece and nephews.
