Myrtle Riggs, 96, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 in Dalhart, TexasFuneral services were held at 2:00 pm CST Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Texline, Texas with burial was in The Texline Cemetery under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, TXOfficiating was Rev. Billy Rammage, Pastor retired Myrtle Laurine Howell was born November 12, 1917 in Felt, OK to Charles and Bessie (Stewart) Howell. Myrtle was raised in Felt and after graduating from Felt High School she attended and received her BS in Education from OPSU in Goodwell, OK. She married Everett Riggs on May 17, 1941 in Goodwell. They lived in the Tri-State area until the late 60s when they moved to Corpus Christi, TX. In the Early 1980s they returned to the Texas Panhandle. Myrtle was a member of the Texline Baptist Church, womens auxiliary of the VFW and an accomplished seamstress, book-keeper and educator. Survivors include her husband Everett Riggs of Texline, TX, a daughter Laurina and her husband Walter Matuska of Los Alamos, NM. a son Charles Riggs and his wife Edene of Denton, TX. 7 Grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren as well as 4 brothers: CC Howell of Ft. Worth, TX, Everett Howell of Tribune, KS, TJ Howell of Lovington, NM and Jerrold Howell of Califorinia. Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Jessie Johnson, a granddaughter Sally Matuska, and a sister Dora Mae Rammage.
