Muriel Shepherd, 82, died Saturday, August 27, 2005 in Dalhart, TXGraveside Services were at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Dalhart, TX, under the direction of Horizon Funeral HomeOfficiating was Ron Hein, Deacon of the St. Anthonys Catholic Church, Dalhart, TXMuriel Veronica Shepherd born July 30, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the only child born to John & Lillian (Scott) Riley. She grew up and attended school in Brooklyn, NY. She met and married Coast Guardsman Everett B. Shepherd. After marriage, they moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where they resided until the end of WWII. In 1946 Muriel, with her husband returned to his hometown of Dalhart where they lived and raised their family for the next 60 years. Muriel had four sons, one of whom died at birth. Muriel-known to those who knew her best as Merle, for many years worked as a dispatcher for the Dalhart Police Department. Later, she, along with her husband owned and operated the Sweet Shop in Dalhart and became well known locally for her cakes and cookies. In recent months Muriel left her home at 913 Sagebrush in Dalhart, and resided at Coon Memorial Nursing Home. preceded in death by her parents, her son John Everett Shepherd. Survivors include - Husband of 61 years, Everett Shepherd Coon Memorial Nursing Home, Dalhart Sons: Jim Shepherd and his Wife Shirley of San Antonio, TX, Steve Shepherd and his wife Shirley of Plano, TX, & Glenn Shepherd of Dalhart, TX 11 Grandchildren & 11 Great- Grandchildren and the entire staff of Coon Memorial Nursing Home and Hospital who she considered family.Everett and family request that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Coon Memorial Nursing Home to help the Home and its staff continue their fine work.
