Mildred "Mickey" Ford, 88, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in Dumas, Texas. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 10th, 2017 at the Church of Christ, 1420 Denver Ave. Dalhart TX. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX ~ Arrangements provided by Horizon Funeral Home Dalhart, TX. Mildred Carruth was born January 9, 1929 at the farm 12 miles SW of Tulia, TX in Swisher County. The 4th child of Ernest and Lemmie (Bennett) Carruth. "Mickey" grew up on the farm and went to school in Tulia where she graduated in 1946, then spent one year at W.T. before marrying Berl A. Ford in Amarillo on October 9th, 1948. They moved to Hartley in 1951. Berl died in 1999. Mickey was an active member of the Dalhart Church of Christ and loved to help children learn about the Lord, she wrote the curriculum for Bible Hour and wrote the curriculum and taught the Dorcus Class for 30yrs. Taught 3rd grade bible class for over half a century. One of Mildreds favorite missions was the Chimala Hospital Mission in Tanzania, Africa. Always the educator, she would buy school books for college students, helped make Christmas gifts and cookies for the New Mexico Childrens home and was well known in Hartley Schools for devotion to the students especially during the spelling bees. Her love for flowers and gardens was only surpassed by her love for family, from her sons and their wives to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mickey is survived by her sons: David and his wife Vicki of Dumas, TX and Donald and his wife Terry of Hartley, TX., her 5 grandchildren: Jeff Ford and wife Jen of Dumas, TX, Dena Schimmel and husband John of St. Louis, MO, Kevin Ford and wife Kylie of Dumas, TX, Ryan Ford and wife Tacia of Dalhart, TX and Adam Ford and wife Jackie of Dumas, TX. As well as 11 great grandchildren and a very special friend and health caregiver- Linda Goodman. She is preceded in death by her husband, 1 son Larry Ford, 1 sister and 2 brothers.
