Mildred Ruth Ballinger, 91, died Friday, April 9, 2010 in Dalhart, TexasServices were held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the First Christian Church, Dalhart, Texas.Officiating was Barry Walker, PastorMildred was born in Guymon, Ok to Walter & Hulda (Langendoefer) Gumper on March 15, 1919. She was the oldest of five. Mildred was a lifelong resident of the Dalhart area and was graduated from Dalhart High School.She married Calvin Ballinger on July 31, 1940, they were married sixty-six years, and he preceded her in death August 9, 2006. Following high school Mildred worked for R.E. Stalcup, Attorney and King Fike, Attorney for a number of years. During WWII she also worked for the Rent Control Office. Mildred was an active member of the Dalhart First Christian Church since August 20, 1934. She taught a childrens Sunday School Class and later taught a Womens Sunday School Class for many years. Mildred was active with school activities and the PTA while her children were in school. She also belonged to the Junior Mothers Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Petal Pushers Garden Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union, and served as a volunteer for Reach to Recovery with the American Cancer Society.Mildred was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis Ballinger on March 31, 2001 and a brother, Forrest Gumper.Survivors include -Daughter, Frances & Larry Childers of Dalhart; Son, Barry & Sue (Heiskell) Ballinger of Lubbock; 3 sisters, Gertrude Campbell of Amarillo, Herma Porter of Pilot Grove, MO., Dorothy Walden of Springerville, Az.; 12 Grandchildren, 17 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great Great-Grandchildren.Family visitation will be Monday, April 13 from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at Horizon Funeral Home.Memorials may be sent to the First Chirstian Church of Dalhart, Fellowship Hall Fund.
