Merle Sherrill, 76, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 in Dalhart, TexasServices were held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Central United Methodist Church in Dalhart, Texas. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home.Merle Jean Bullard was born January 1, 1934 in Crystal City, Texas to Burey and Willie Bullard. She attended school in Canyon, Tex. Merle met Tommy Sherrill on a blind date on July 4, 1950 and they were married on November 29, 1951. They had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.She first and foremost loved the Lord and so patterned her life after Him. She was a most wonderful faithful Christian role model for her family and all who met her her entire life. She was a very active member of the Central United Methodist Church of Dalhart Sunday school, choir, the cooking team and kitchen coordinator. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Merle was retired but had previously worked for the Dalhart IDS, White & Nisbett Insurance Agency, Mac Bates Insurance Agency and Insurance Associates all in Dalhart.Merle was the loving wife of Tommy and mother of Beverly Meade of Alpine, TX. Sandra Heiskell and husband Rick of Dalhart, Susie Handley and husband Steve of Alpine, TX, and Randy Sherrill and wife Lori of Dalhart, TX She had five grandchildren she adored: Sherrill Herndon and husband Greg of Amarillo, TX, James Schallert of Kansas, Will Handley of Alpine, TX and Madison and Cooper Sherrill of Dalhart, TX. Merle is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. They all realize how utterly blessed they are to have been a part of their life.She is preceded in death by her grandson Casey Like, her parents, two brothers Ivan and Forest Bullard and one sister Joanne NewmanIn Lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to the Central United Methodist building fund at P.O.
