Mary Reynolds, 97, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 24, 2020 in Dalhart, Texas. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Central United Methodist Church in Dalhart, Texas. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rusty Hancock of Lincoln Street Baptist Church, Dalhart, officiated. Arrangements under Horizon Funeral Home. Mary Elizabeth Moore Reynolds was born November 15, 1922 in Dalhart, Texas. Her parents were Gomer and Stella Moore. They resided on a farm in the north Sedan area from 1923 until moving to Dalhart a few years later. Mary attended Dalhart schools and is a DHS graduate class of 1940. She attended one year of college at West Texas State College in Canyon, TX. She also attended Amarillo Secretarial School (1941-42). She worked in Amarillo as a bookkeeper for several months for a filling station and auto repair for experience.
Mary moved back to Dalhart and worked for First National Bank of Dalhart from 1942-1945, then worked at Federal Land Bank from 1945-1946 until she was married. Mary married Harry Leon Reynolds of Conlen on October 20, 1946. They lived on a farm north of Conlen until 1960 when they moved to Dalhart. They owned and operated Reynolds Welding where she was the bookkeeper from 1961-1984.
Mary was very active in many organizations. She was a nurses aide volunteer at the Loretta Hospital during WWII, she was a member of the Conlen Home Extension Club for 20 years, where she held the offices of President, Secretary, and Council Delegate. Mary was also President of the Dallam County Extension Council, State Delegate and Woman of the Year in 1965. She was a
4-H Leader for 10 years in sewing and cooking, where she shared her love of sewing with her daughters and granddaughters.
Mary joined the Laureate Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in 1943-1944. She has received a Golden Circle Pin and a Diamond Pin. She held the offices of President, Corresponding Secretary and Reporter. She was chosen 1987 Laureate Gammas Valentine Girl in 2009, she decided to become a member at large. She and Harry were actively involved in the creation of the Dalhart Senior Citizen Center. Mary volunteered in the dining room every Tuesday. She also helped decorate the tables for each season.
Mary has been a member of the Central United Methodist Church since 1933. She was married in the original Rock Island CUMC and has since held her parents and husband Harrys funeral services there. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and served as President, Reporter and Supportive Chairman. She has been a group leader and Vice-President of the Open Door Sunday School Class.
Harry and Mary square danced with clubs in Dalhart, Dumas and Amarillo. They were still square dancing at the time of Harrys death in 1998.
They had the good fortune of traveling over the years, going to Hawaii, Spain, Morocco, Florida, North Carolina, a New England bus tour, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Vancouver Island, California, Arizona, Branson, MO, and Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
Mary is survived by her daughters; Janis Graef and husband Steve of Austin, TX, Gail Field and Husband Stephen of Blanco, TX, granddaughters; Jennifer Feger and husband Curtis, Krista Albrecht, and Stephanie Jennings and husband David. She has eleven great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and their families.
Mary had a wide circle of dear and lifelong friends with whom she spent many happy hours, especially after Harrys death. These friends include Eva Davis, Alice Knight, Mary McCarty, Yvonne Whitaker, Nancy Clayton, JoAnn Henderson, etc., etc. Mary enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and was an avid walker for many years.
