Lynne Hill of Dalhart died Friday, December 8,2017 after a long battle with cancer in Dalhart, Texas. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the First Christian Church, Dalhart, Texas. Burial to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas. Funeral services are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mary Lynne Smith was born April 3, 1937 in Broken Bow, OK. She was the youngest of seven children born to Clifford Smith and Bessie Fannie (Jennings) Smith. Lynne attended Broken Bow schools, graduating high school at sixteen. Afterward she attended Southeastern State Teachers College (now Southwestern State University) where she received a degree in teaching. Lynne taught High School in Velma/Alma, OK for three years and moved to Dalhart in 1960 teaching two more years. Lynne met her husband Lynn Hill while teaching adult typing courses. They married June 15, 1963, and the two made their home in Dalhart raising two sons, Mark and Paul. Lynn never learned to type. Together they owned the Hill Tractor Company. The two were married fifty-one years. Lynne loved all of her grandchildren and enjoyed keeping track of their various activities. Lynne was a long-time, faithful member of First Christian Church in Dalhart, where she worshiped over fifty years. She was beloved by her Church family to whom she was deeply committed. She was a long-time member of Las Viajeras Study Club where she served in a variety of roles including club president. She served her community in a variety of ways. Lynne was an artist and craftswoman, making many items that were sold at bazaars and craft shows. Lynne is survived by her two sons and their families. Mark and Dedra Hill, and their daughter Hunter; Paul and Calana Hill, and their children Savannah, Harrison, and Tatiana; and one sister Lois Johannes of Cheviot, OH. She is preceded in death by her husband Lynn, her parents, three brothers, Shelby, Rudy, and Richard, two sisters, Wilma and Pauline, and a grandson Joe Mac.
