Marjorie "Marge" Gallegly, 90, departed this life on May 8, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas and was welcomed into heavens gates. Celebration of Life services was held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the Central United Methodist Church, Dalhart, TX. Interment in the Memorial Park Cemetery was at 11:00 am prior to Celebration of Life. ~ Arrangements, under the care of Horizon Funeral Home in Dalhart, Texas. Marge was born August 17, 1927 in Amarillo, Texas to Ted Wheeler and Kathryn (Miller) Sherrod. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945 and it was in Amarillo that she met the love of her life, H.L. "Lou" Gallegly. They were married on October 7, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas. Marge and Lou moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1946 for Lou to complete his education at the University of Arkansas. After Lous graduation, he accepted a job opportunity in Dalhart, Texas in 1949 with the Texas Highway Department and they made the move back to Texas. Dalhart would be their lifetime home for more than 65 years. Marge was a loving and devoted wife, a busy and involved mother, an active participant in her community, a longtime and active member of the Central United Methodist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class. Marge nurtured many loyal friendships that spanned her lifetime; she was a caregiver by nature to both family and friends and she lived her life fully participating and with great joy. Marge was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an aunt, a good friend, a grandmother and a Gigi. She celebrated each role with love, joy and a heart for God. Her legacy is a family that loves each other with all their hearts and enjoys any chance to be together and a steadfast faith that carried her through life. Marge is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Lou Gallegly; a son, Patrick Gallegly; her parents, Ted Wheeler and Kathryn Sherrod; and a sister, Eileen Files (Lee) of Amarillo. Marge leaves to cherish her memory her children and their spouses, Tim Gallegly and Patti of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ken Gallegly and Kaua of Levelland, Texas and Cindy Gallegly Whitehead and Tony of Lubbock, Texas. Six grandchildren, Leslie Allen and husband, Cody of Lubbock, Texas; Mary Deka and husband Joe of Scottsdale, Arizona; BJ Lattimore and wife Christy of Lubbock, Texas; Katie Lynch and husband Pete of Seattle, Washington; Allison Bailey and husband Ryan of Lubbock, Texas and Emily Carr and husband, Gavin of Houston, Texas. Marge was also blessed with seven great grandchildren- Quinn Allen, Asha Deka, Kenston Lattimore, Kaya Deka, Lottie Bailey, Lewis Bailey and Timothy Lynch. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the Promise Land Assisted Living facility in Lubbock, Texas and the caregivers that worked with her daily. In addition we are so grateful to Hospice of Lubbock and their dedication to Marge these last few months.
