Margaret Guilloud Ashlock, 84, long-time former Dalhart resident, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Baptist-St. Anthonys Hospital in Amarillo. She was born July 31, 1920 in Dennison, Texas and moved at age six to the Dalhart area with her parents Dorothy Holder Guilloud and Ernest Guilloud, Sr., farming and ranching pioneers. Her paternal grandparents Marie Arn Guilloud and Henry Guilloud immigrated to Texas from Switzerland in 1889 and her maternal grandparents Comanche Strait Holder and Clinton Lafayette Holder were native Texas pioneers.In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Carl Ashlock; sister Aline Guilloud Moore; brother Ernest Guilloud, Jr.; daughter Frances Joan Ashlock; son Clyde Ashlock and daughter Nanette Ashlock Robertson.On December 9, 1939 she married Carl George Ashlock whose family had come to Texas from Kentucky. Together they made their home in Dalhart for forty-eight years and are survived by four of their seven children: Carlene Ashlock Skrainar of Santa Clara, California; Lydia Ashlock Douglas of the Amarillo home; Virginia Ashlock (Mrs. Tom) Harn of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Nina Ashlock Hardin of Columbus, Indiana; ten grandchildren: Tammie Robertson, Shelly Robertson (Mrs. Tim) Koenig, Tom Skrainar, Lauren Harn, John Harn, Stephanie Reese (Mrs. Nick) Brooks, Amy Reese, James Reese, Kelly Hardin, and Gavin Nichols; six great-grandchildren: Daniel McMillan, Sarah Koenig, Dylan Brooks, Kylie Brooks, Alexis Brooks and Aden Reese; and her beloved collie Laddie.Mrs. Ashlock attended Rehm School and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1937. She was an accomplished, published poet and shared her many poems with family and friends. After moving to Amarillo in 1999, she became an active member of the High Plains Chapter, Poetry Society of Texas. She will be greatly missed by all her family and many friends.Services were held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 2:00 in the First Baptist Church chapel of Dalhart where Mrs. Ashlock was a longtime and faithful member. Dr. Clifford Dane, Minister to Senior adults, officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Horizon Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to Heifer International, The Carter Center, Cal Farleys Boys Ranch or a favorite charity.
