Koehn
August 7, 1949 — July 11, 2026
Lynn Koehn of Hartley, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on July 11, 2026. Lynn will lie in state for viewing at Dalhart Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday July 14,2026 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday July 15, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Countryside Mennonite Church in Dalhart, Texas.
At the breaking of dawn on July 11, 2026, Lynn Koehn, my beloved husband, our dearest father and wonderful Papa, peacefully left this world behind, surrounded by his family at his long-time country home in Hartley, TX at the age of 76. We are thankful for how God led through the recent months of his declining health and graciously called him Home.
Lynn was born to Abe H. Koehn & Erma (Jantz) Koehn on August 7, 1949, at Bethel Home in Montezuma, KS. His childhood years were spent in Gray County, Kansas living and working on the family farm. He received his formal education at Montezuma public school.
Lynn heard the call to surrender his heart and life to God at 15 years of age. On November 29, 1964, upon his confession of Faith he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite becoming a member of the Montezuma Congregation. He was faithful to this commitment until the end.
When he was 18 years old, he reported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City to fulfill 2 years of alternative service as a Conscientious Objector. These years were a special blessing to him and it was during this time he made lasting friendships that he treasured. Returning home after his term of service to pursue what life had for him, Lynn found employment at various jobs taking opportunities as they came.
A special young lady, Karleen Unruh found a place in his heart and on May 30, 1971 they were joined in marriage at Montezuma, KS. To this union were born 3 daughters: Misty Dawn, Tara Lyn and Jana Jo.
Following his spirit of adventure, in February 1976, Lynn moved his young family to Dalhart, TX. In the course of time his livelihood centered around the cattle industry. This led him to pursue opportunities further west into New Mexico where he made lasting connections and friendships.
His world was turned upside down on February 20, 1986 when his dear wife Karleen and precious 4 year old daughter, Jana Jo, were tragically taken from this life. This left him heart broken and devastated. Somehow, during those dark days following, the Grace of God carried Lynn, Misty and Tara through.
God was good to Lynn, and he began to notice a young lady by the name of Gayla Koehn. They were joined in marriage in Texline, On December 14, 1986, beginning almost 40 years of wonderful, treasured memories together.
To this union were born 2 sons, Taylor and Aaron. The following years were filled with many special times, tending to the cattle he pastured in New Mexico, traveling, singing and working together. Drinking coffee together on the front porch was something we all enjoyed.
He enjoyed Bible School, Sunday School, Bible Study and the Countryside Congregation. His object lessons were always interesting and enjoyed by all.
Prayer was very important to Dad. We remember how he often gave thanks for the gift of salvation. Dad built a wall of prayer around each of his family and his friends who were in need. We often heard him pray “please keep us from complaining”. He chose praise over bitterness. He loved God and the Church, expressing many times that it was becoming more beautiful to him.
Dad’s wit and humor gained him many friends which will be missed. Being genuine to his kindhearted personality attracted many. We look forward to meeting our beloved husband, father and Papa, through God’s grace, someday.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Gayla, Hartley, TX., daughters: Misty and Vernon Peters, Dalton, OH., Tara and Kyle Ratzloff, Verden, Ok., Sons: Taylor and Jenifer, Dalhart, TX., Aaron and Michelle, Hartley, TX., 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild.
Preceding him in death are: his first wife, daughter, parents, parents in law, 1 brother, 3 sisters, 5 brothers in law, 1 sister-in-law.
The Koehn family has entrusted Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services with his services.
