Louise De Ette Guthrie "Nurse" Kelly, 99, completed her circle of life and passed peacefully in Amarillo, TX on May 7, 2019.
Graveside services were held at 9:00 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time, 10:00 a.m. Central Daylight Time, Monday, May 13, 2019 at Nara Visa Cemetery in Nara Visa, NM. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, TX.
A gathering for family and friends will followed at the Nara Visa Community Building.
Louise was born on April 22, 1920, in Lebanon, NY to Floyd F. and Zilpha M. Griffin Guthrie. She was raised in New York and after graduating from nursing school she enlisted in the U. S. Army on October 26, 1942, and was a 1st Lieutenant.
Louise married Wilbur Willis "Bill" Kelly on June 13, 1945 in England, during WWII. After being honorably discharged on December 15, 1945, she and Bill made their homes in New York, Colorado, New Mexico and ultimately Dalhart, TX. Louise was a nurse at Coon Memorial Hospital as well as Dr. John Cunninghams registered nurse for many years.
After retiring they moved to the Kelly Family Ranch outside Nara Visa, NM, where they lived and raised cattle. Bill preceded her in death on October 4, 1998 and shortly after his passing, Louise returned to Dalhart.
Survivors include three sons, Jim and wife Debbie of Logan, NM; Carl and wife Linda of Cedar City, UT; John and wife Debbie of Amarillo, TX and daughter Carol Ford and husband Danny of Hartley, TX; thirteen grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to your favorite charity.
