Fokelina (Liny) Gerber Mellema 84, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart, Texas. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 3 at Central United Methodist Church. Officiating was Steve Patterson, Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home. Liny's Video Liny was born on May 23, 1929 in Holland to Pieter Jan and Jantje Hofman Gerber. She married Tammo Jurjen (Tom) Mellema on January 11, 1956. On November 26, 1979 Liny and her husband, Tom, and 3 children immigrated from The Netherlands to Dalhart to start a new farming adventure and their life as US citizens. Liny enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of her flowers. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her 7 grandchildren. Liny was a longtime member of various clubs including Petal Pushers Garden Club, Las Viajeras Study Club, Extension Homemakers Club and was a HOSTS mentor for many years at Allyn Finch Intermediate School. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Tom. She is survived by her son, Sieto and his wife Misty Mellema of Dalhart, daughter Jantje (Jeanet) and her husband Nick Olson of Dalhart, daughter Annegien and her husband Cord Offermann of Austin, Texas, grandchildren, Tammo, Matt and Mitchell Mellema, Samantha and Christian Olson, Greyson and Ryan Offermann, and special friends of over 65 years, John and Siny Brinkman, The Netherlands.
