Linda Gay Childers, 81, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 in Odessa, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at Central United Methodist Church. Linda Gay (Parker) Childers was born Thursday, February 29, 1940 in Dallas, Texas. Linda attended Dalhart schools and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1958. She was also named the 1958 XIT Queen. Linda attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and served on the Wales Hall Judicial Council. She went on to attend West Texas State College (WTA&M) where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Linda married Dale Childers July 30, 1960 at Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. They lived in Barstow, California and La Junta, Colorado, had 2 children, Lisa Gaye and Mark Alvin before returning to Dalhart in 1964. She was active in the Petal Pushers Garden Club and served on the Dallam County Child Welfare Board. She was the librarian for the Dallam-Hartley County Library for 18 years. Linda moved to Odessa, TX in 2016 to be near family and became a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Odessa. Linda is survived by her son Mark Childers and wife of Shana of Dumas, TX, sisters: Donna Moon of Rockwall, TX and Jeana Farmer and husband Samy of San Angelo, TX, brothers: Walt Hensley and wife Gaynelle of Arlington, TX and Bill Donica of San Angelo, TX, 5 grandchildren: Katie Spars and husband T.J. of Odessa, TX, Jace Childers of Odessa, TX, Karlee Childers of Amarillo, TX, Rylan and Sabien Perry of Dumas, TX, 3 great granddaughters: DeLanie and Linda Eve Sparks of Odessa, TX and Skyler Childers of Odessa, TX. Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Childers, a daughter, Lisa Gay Childers, parents, J.C. and Mary D. Parker and birth mother, Virgia Donica.
